It's a 16 x 20 acrylic on canvas.

You can see it at Turkey Red in Palmer until October 10, 2014 then it will be
auctioned off at the Palmer on Parade Auction October 11.

Alaska State Fair 8.24.14

The Alaska State Fair set up "The Gathering Place" this year.  It is a wonderful place to learn about Alaska Native culture - dance, storytelling, music and arts/crafts.  There is a stage for performances and several cabins for artists to sell their crafts.  Since I am Sugpiaq, I was fortunate enough to sell my artwork there this weekend.

The buildings are a little primitive right now but in the next couple of years, they will be expanding the site and upgrade the buildings.  It's also a little hard to find (on the yellow trail) but hopefully permanent signs will be posted so more people can come through.

This weekend the Unangax Dancers performed - loved them!!!

I will be selling again this weekend  (8/30 and 8/31).  Hope you get a chance to check it out!

Art Journal

I wanted to use my new digital images that I'm offering on my etsy site.

First I painted the page with Golden's Transparent Brown Iron Oxide.  Because I'm impatient, I blotted it with a paper towel.  I love the diamond shaped texture from the paper towel so I left it alone. I stenciled Liquitex Cobalt Teal over a corner.

Here's how it looks after.

After trying tons of different glues.... Elmers is still my favorite.

Finished!  Well maybe... I'll probably fiddle with it a little more.

Feels like a Monday

Did you ever have one of ThOSe days?

CoFfeE TiMe!!!

I am a creature of habit.  First thing - I head to the coffee pot to start my morning.  After the first sip, I can sit down and read the news, work my crossword puzzle, and make my “to do” list.  I love to make my own latte but have you noticed how expensive the syrups are?  I played around and came up with my own recipe.  Hope you give it a try.

Homemade coffee syrup

3 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
1 ½ cups water
2 tsp flavoring
Combine sugar and water in a saucepan.  Cook over medium heat until full boil, stirring constantly.  Remove from heat and add 2 tsp of your favorite flavoring (I love vanilla butter nut by Kroeger).  I have mixed different flavors to equal 2 tsp and they turn out pretty good too.

After it cools, I pour the syrup in a bottle with a pour spout.  It doesn’t all fit so I store the rest in a jar in the fridge.  Enjoy!

CoFfeE TiMe!

I am so thankful for all the artists and craftspeople who have shared their knowledge on the internet.  I have learned so much from them and I hope to give back by sharing things I have learned and ideas I have.

I am a beader, painter, digital artist, and all around mess maker - really, what better way to make a living.
